Week of October 15th

Week of October 15th:

Alvvays – Antisocialites

Alvvays Antisocialites

This is the second full length album from Alvvays. I didn’t enjoy this as much as their 2014 self titled album. Antisocialites didn’t grab me the same way as the first album. This one could be a grower, and just doesn’t grab you right away.

Alvvays – Dreams Tonite

Bully – Losing

Bully Losing

Losing is Bully’s follow up to 2015’s Feels Like. Bully feels very reminiscent of female fronted alternative bands from the 90s.  If the Breeders and Veruca Salt had a baby, it’d be Bully. Overall I really liked this album. One of those you can throw on the turntable and dance around your apartment.

Bully – Not The Way

Iron Chic – You Can’t Stay Here

iron-chic-you-cant-stay-here

Iron Chic is one of those bands that I didn’t stumble across until this year. And, I’m really glad that I did. You Can’t Stay Here is their new record. Pretty sure I listened to it about six times while walking around Lincoln Park Zoo. In total, I think I’ve listened to this album eight times so I guess I like it.

Planes, Chest Pains, and Automobiles

The Menzingers – After the Party

The Menzingers After the Party

After the Party is a revisit for me. So far it’s in my top five for records of the year. It’s just a fun record. Full of sing-along moments, and always puts me in a good mood. Favorites off of this are After the Party, Lookers, Wild Years, Charlie’s Army, and Midwestern States. The only song I really don’t like is Thick as Thieves.

Randy Newman – Trouble in Paradise

Randy Newman Trouble in Paradise

Sometimes you have to go back to the classics. Admittedly thanks to the Los Angeles Dodgers I’ve rediscovered this record. It’s been fun to go back and listen to. And, I’m sure my neighbors are tired of hearing Randy Newman coming from my apartment.

Randy Newman – I Love L.A.

Taylor Swift – Gorgeous

Taylor Swift Gorgeous

So far none of the singles from Reputation have been anything to write home about. But, I will admit I’m looking forward to the new record. Mainly I just want to see what tea Taylor has to spill. And, rest assured I will be dissecting every song to figure out what they’re about.
